چکیده

Introduction Left atrial (LA) dilation is an important index in cardiovascular disease. The CMR volumetric short axis method is the reference imaging standard but has limited ability to define the mitral valve plane accurately. The biplane method is simpler and frequently employed in clinical settings. We hypothesized that long axis two chamber (2ch) imaging might better define left atrial boundaries.

Modeling left atrial volume, shape, and contraction patterns in normal subjects by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging.

BACKGROUND Left atrial three-dimensional shape and contraction patterns are not well described. We quantified the LA using three-dimensional cardiac MRI (CMR) in a group of normal subjects. METHODS Three-dimensional vectors were used to quantitate atrial shape and contraction using a geometric model as a three-dimensional prolate ellipsoid. Atrial area and length at end-systole and end-diasto...

Assessment of left atrial volumes at 1.5 Tesla and 3 Tesla using FLASH and SSFP cine imaging.

PURPOSE To investigate left atrial volumes and function and their variability in healthy volunteers using steady state free precession (SSFP) and fast low angle shot (FLASH) sequences at both 1.5 and 3 T using both the short-axis and biplane area-length methods. MATERIALS AND METHODS Ten healthy volunteers underwent CMR at both 1.5 and 3 Tesla. The biplane area-length method utilized volumes ...

Single and biplane TrueFISP cardiovascular magnetic resonance for rapid evaluation of left ventricular volumes and ejection fraction.

INTRODUCTION Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) allows very accurate, but time-consuming, volume assessment by the short-axis slice summation technique. The single and biplane methods of volume assessment are used less, partly because FLASH cine imaging provides poor blood-myocardium contrast in long-axis views. TrueFISP gives excellent blood-myocardium contrast, even in patients with hear...

Assessment of left atrial volumes in sinus rhythm and atrial fibrillation using the biplane area-length method and cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging with TrueFISP.

OBJECTIVES To determine whether the biplane area-length method can be used for the evaluation of left atrial volumes and ejection fraction with cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) by TrueFISP in normal subjects and patients with atrial fibrillation. BACKGROUND Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia in elderly patients. Left atrial size and volumes play an important role...

Left ventricular volume measurement using cardiac axis nuclear magnetic resonance imaging. Validation by calibrated ventricular angiography.

Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) imaging has the potential to serially assess left ventricular (LV) volumes with optimal accuracy because it is a high-resolution, three-dimensional, noninvasive modality. Previous NMR studies to assess LV volumes have been suboptimal, as they have used either planes aligned with the axes of the body, which are compromised by partial volume effects, or spi...
